Mini Creative Challenge: Film A Real Estate Property / by Johnny Michael

Here’s what I did.

Using my iPhone and DJI Osmo Mobile 3 I created a little 1 minute video highlighting an apartment. I wanted to get some practice with camera movement and telling a visual narrative with a simple space. I stitched it all together with iMovie and tossed on some free stock jazz to put a bow on her.

Here’s why I did it.

There’s a lot of really nice architecture and pads to live in around Miami. All of these big fancy buildings really fascinate me and I have an innate burning curiosity to tour them. It would also be a cool freelance gig to start taking on some projects for local listings in Miami and realtors that need content for their properties.

Here’s what I could have done better.

Not to beat my self up but I did it a little run and gun. If I were to be more professional and efficient I would have planned a shot list and grabbed highlights of the apartment and things the realtor would want to feature. I also would have planned the time a day a bit better. Also, also sucked that it was rainy, but also helped because the poolside was desolate and ideal for running around with a camera. Also, again using the word also, thinking the pieces could include voiceover to add details about location, price, amenities and even an opportunity to have fun with a layer of comedy here and there.

Here’s what I did well.

Overall, camera moves felt pretty good. The DJI Osmo Mobile 3 is a great tool for this kind of task. Organizing footage files into categories and folders made for a smooth edit which in the end came out pretty good. Not too shabby, if I say so myself.
