I just published the first video in what I hope becomes a fun ongoing series: Golf Instruction with Billy Bob Shallard.
What The HELL IS THIS?
Billy Bob Shallard is my attempt at parodying those overly serious golf instruction videos we've all seen a million times. You know the ones - deeply confident instructors telling you this one drill will fix your game.
The joke here is simple: what if all that production value and instructor authority was applied to the most absurd "drills" imaginable? In this case, using hot dogs as alignment aids for your putting stroke.
Why I Made This
Because it made me laugh.
I've been so focused on premium golf content - cinematic course films, aerial shots, serious storytelling - that I wanted to flex a different muscle. Comedy is fun and when done right, it's the most shareable, rewatchable content out there.
The Character
Billy Bob Shallard is a serious, southern, and completely committed to whatever ridiculous drill he's teaching. A man who genuinely believes hot dogs will improve your putting stroke.
What's Next
I'm planning to keep this series going with more Billy Bob videos. Different drills, different setups, same Billy energy.
If you've got ideas for ridiculous golf drills Billy Bob should teach, I'm all ears. The dumberer, the better.
Technical Notes
Shot this on my Canon DSLR with a 50mm lens at Granada Golf Course's practice green. Used my Rode wireless lavs for audio. Hand-drew the title cards on my iPad to give it that slightly rough, silly feel.
Whole shoot took maybe 66 minutes. Edit took a few hours to get the pacing right and nail the comedic timing.
